Floating the Gunnison

Saturday, May 9, 2009

On Saturday I was invited by a friend at work to take his raft down the Gunnison River from Escalante to Bridgeport. He’s planning a big trip on the Yampa in a few weeks and needed to get more practice on the water beforehand. This is a pretty easy section of river with a couple of Class II rapids along the way and is about 14 miles in length. With the spring runoff, the water was flowing pretty fast and we ended up completing the trip in about four hours. The water was also pretty cold, so we did our best to stay out of it, and succeeded.

Yellow Cat in the Snow

Saturday, January 17, 2009

On Saturday I headed out and met up with Derek and his friend Jay in a TJ at Crescent Junction. Our destination was the Yellow Cat area north of Arches National Park to explore some old Uranium mines. This is an area I have wanted to explore for a while, and I was not disappointed. However, I think I will need to head back after the snow melts off, since it was difficult for us to keep track of where the trails went, and we spent a lot of time hiking ahead to figure out where we were 😉 We did end up finding a few mines, plus we got to play in the snow!

Dome Plateau Led by Alex

Thursday, October 9, 2008

On Thursday I decided to go on another official trail ride which was led by Alex. He likes to lead a new trail every year that he has never run before, and this year he chose to check out Dome Plateau. Lucky for me, this was also an area that I wanted to explore, so I volunteered to tailgun for him as well. He did his homework on the area, and we only missed one turn the whole day, but he quickly realized it and got us turned around right away.
