The original plan for this weekend was for me to meetup with Jan and do some exploring around the Canyon of the Ancients area. However, because a few people bailed on him and he was unable to check out the San Juans with them, I offered to show him around there instead. We’ll check out Canyon of the Ancients on another trip. Jan was looking for a good overview of the area, so we ended up running a number of the more popular trails in the area. I left work early on Friday and met Jan in Ouray. Our first destination was Governor Basin. This is a trail that I had not done yet, and was looking forward to it. I’ll definitely be headed back this way in the spring when the wildflowers are blooming.

This last Saturday, Amanda and I headed back to the San Juan Mountains. My goal for this day trip was to explore some spur roads off of the Engineer Pass trail that I have not been down before. We started at Mineral Creek off of US 550 and made our way towards Engineer Pass.

Sunday had to be a short day for us, as Amanda had to go into work that night. I still wanted to get a new trail in, so we headed south to Bolam Pass. Some photos from that trail…

On Saturday morning Amanda and I headed down to Silverton. After setting up camp we made our way down the road that leads from Silverton to Animas Forks that we have traveled many times before. In the past we have explored a bunch of the side trails off of this road (Cunningham Gulch, Eureka Gulch, Picayune Gulch & Placer Gulch), however there were a few that either I have not checked out before, or that were blocked by snow when I attempted them. Our goal for this day was to check out the rest of those trails.
