Along Comb Ridge | Sunday

Memorial Day Weekend | Sunday, May 30, 2010

After a good night’s sleep, we headed out early on Sunday morning to hike to the Lewis Lodge ruins. While we made it down the first ledge, we were unable to make it down to the ruins because of the very narrow and steep trail with an 800 foot drop-off on one side. The exposure was just too much for us. We did manage to get some photos of the ruins from the opposite side of the canyon, though.

Spot the ruins high up on the cliff.

We were a bit disappointed that we couldn’t make it out to the ruins, but after hiking back to our Jeep’s we continued on down the trail a little ways to stop at Hotel Rock for some pictures and lunch.

After heading back up towards Elk Ridge, Jared took off to check out the Seven Towers while we continued on down Woodenshoe Road to drive for a bit. We got off Woodenshoe onto Found Mesa Road which took us back to the highway at Soldier Crossing. Shortly before reaching the pavement, we found a small but interesting arch just off the road in White Canyon.

After reaching the highway we headed back to Blanding to grab some dinner and then headed down Comb Wash Road as the sun was setting.

Before heading to bed for the evening, I attempted my first star trail photo, and aside from the very dark foreground, I think the star trails turned out nicely 🙂
