Colorado to Utah Trip

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

First off, let me say that driving West of Denver on I-70 on a Saturday morning during ski season is a bad idea. Traffic was terrible!!! I got up early this morning and left my friend’s apartment in Denver around 7:00am to start my drive over to Moab. Aside from the very heavy traffic the drive was not too bad. This was actually my first trip on that stretch of I-70 without pulling a trailer behind me, which made the drive a little easier!

Leaving Colorado

IntrepidXpedition 2007 | Day 10
Saturday, July 28, 2007

When I woke up on that Saturday morning, I had been in Colorado for 9 full days. It was finally time to head out and move on to Utah. My destination for this day was the La Sal Mountains and Moab, Utah. I was planning on getting there via the Castleton-Gateway Road. In order to get to Gateway, I needed to cross over the passes to the Telluride side. I knew Black Bear still wasn’t opened yet, but had heard Ophir Pass was open again, so I decided to give Ophir a second chance. When I made it to the pass this time around, the road closed signs were gone, so I continued on down the other side towards the little town of Ophir.

Silverton to Grand Junction

IntrepidXpedition 2007 | Day 6
Tuesday, July 24, 2007

On Tuesday, I had to start making my way to Grand Junction to attend the annual UFWDA Conference, but I didn’t have to arrive until later in the evening, so I had a bit of time to do some exploring before heading out. I woke up super early again to get squeeze as much exploring in during the daylight that I could. My plan was to take Ophir Pass over to Telluride and then to take Imogene Pass back to Ouray before heading north. Unfortunately, because of the storms I mentioned from the previous night, my plans would soon change.

NAXJA’s 20th Anniversary Celebration

NAXJA’s Fall Fling 2003
Friday – Sunday, October 3-12, 2003

A few months back I made the decision to drive out to Moab, Utah for a week to attend NAXJA’s 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Jeep Cherokee. I have seen many photos of the trails and beautiful scenery and just knew I needed to experience it for myself. I ended up leaving home on Friday night at around 6:00pm so that I could meet up with my friend in Rochelle, Illinois at about 7:00pm. Once we met up we continued driving west until we got near Des Moines, Iowa where we stopped to get some sleep at a rest area.
