Saturday morning, I had volunteered to help a group that was planning on heading down the Granary Canyon with their vehicle shuttle. Once I was done with that, I hopped in my Jeep again and made my way towards Courthouse Rock. My first stop was the Halfway Stage Station.
My original goal was to continue on from here to the Monitor and Merrimac, however I quickly found out that the route beyond the station was closed by the BLM earlier this year, so I needed to find a different route.
I circled back around Courthouse Rock.
Making my way across Courthouse Pasture towards the Monitor and Merrimac.
On my way to the Determination Towers.
Soon I reached Tusher Wash and then made my way to Bartlett Wash Road and finally reached Hidden Canyon.
Then I looped around to the Hidden Canyon Overlook.
On my way back, I noticed that the BLM had placed signs at both ends of the Mashed Potato 4×4 Trail.
There were also fresh paint markings to mark the trail (it travels mostly across slickrock).
Maybe you can look at the terrain and see why it’s called the Mashed Potato Trail….
When I finished the Mashed Potato Trail, I headed back to the highway and then back into town. I met the rest of the group from Bogley at Zax for dinner. It was a good day 🙂
