Amanda and I headed up onto Grand Mesa today for a few hours. We started out by heading up Lands End Road and stopping at the observatory. From there we headed over to Lake Carson and had some lunch.

After living next to the Colorado River since March and watching all of the rafts and kayaks floating by, we figured it was finally time to give it a try. We went on a short float down the Colorado River this morning for a few hours in a raft. We started out in Fruita and took out at Loma.

Amanda and I took a quick afternoon trip today up Coal Canyon and to a nice overlook in the Book Cliffs over Palisade. Here’s a few pictures.

After work today, Amanda and I headed out for a short hike, since it has been a whole week since we last did any hiking. Went over to Riggs Hill, which is only a few miles from our house. This hill was named after Elmer Riggs from the Chicago Field Museum and was the site of the very first dinosaur excavation in Western Colorado. Here he found the first fossils of the Brachiosaurus in 1900. There is now a cast of some bones along the trail where this discovery was made.
