Short Trip Through Four Arches Canyon

Sunday, October 12, 2008

Sunday was our final day in Moab and I’m not going to lie, I was getting pretty exhausted after exploring and wheeling the last eight days plus staying up later than normal around the campfire with my friends. Still, I didn’t want to head home on Sunday without exploring a new trail, even if it didn’t take very long. After checking out from our motel, Amanda and I headed out to check out Four Arches Canyon.

Windy & Dusty on the Porcupine Rim

Saturday, October 11, 2008

Saturday was the start of my final weekend in Moab this trip. I decided to go on another official trail ride and tag along with Jared who was leading Porcupine Rim. Only about eight Jeeps showed up for this trail ride, which I thought was good. However, this trail turned out to be very very bumpy and it took us longer that we had planned to complete the trail. Not to mention that we also missed a turn and passed up the loop we were planning on taking by a few miles. The night before, the temperatures in Moab had dropped pretty significantly and while we were on the trail the wind picked up pretty good and threw a lot of dust into the air. Even with the windy weather and bumpy trail, we had a great day!

Dome Plateau Led by Alex

Thursday, October 9, 2008

On Thursday I decided to go on another official trail ride which was led by Alex. He likes to lead a new trail every year that he has never run before, and this year he chose to check out Dome Plateau. Lucky for me, this was also an area that I wanted to explore, so I volunteered to tailgun for him as well. He did his homework on the area, and we only missed one turn the whole day, but he quickly realized it and got us turned around right away.

Exploring the Dolores Triangle

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

On Wednesday, I decided to skip the official trail rides and head out to explore an area with Ryan (DrMoab) that is not as well known as a lot of the other trails in the Moab area. We were headed for the Dolores Triangle. This area is located out past the Dewey Bridge on the East side of the Colorado River and North of the Dolores River. The only way to access this area from Moab is to cross the Dolores River, which is not usually possible in the Spring. It was even pretty deep when we crossed it on this day. This area is also accessible from the Grand Junction area without the need to cross the river, which I can also use as an alternate route into Moab in the future.

Strike Ravine and Moab Rim

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

On Tuesday morning I went on the official NAXJA trail group on Strike Ravine which was lead by Alex. The group consisted of 20 XJ’s, and even though it was a larger group, we managed to make good time on the trail. This was my first time on Strike Ravine, and I’m glad I went with the group, because it would be a difficult trail to follow on my own. There are a number of roads and trails that intersect in this area, so I might need to head back another time and do some more exploring. I volunteered to tailgun this trail for Alex, so most of my pictures are from the back of the group.
