A Drive through the Colorado National Monument

After Work Adventures | Tuesday, September 10, 2024

So, this post isn’t really going to be much of a Trip Report, I just wanted to share a few photos I took during a quick drive through the Colorado National Monument this evening. I just bought a new compact camera that arrived yesterday and I wanted to put it through it’s paces right away in order to make sure that I really wanted to keep it, and I figured that stopping at a few of the overlooks along Rim Rock Drive would be a quick and easy place for me to do that. Plus, it’s been quite a while since I drove though the Monument and I was long overdue for another visit. Anyway, here are a couple of the test shots I took this evening, and so far I am pretty impressed with this little camera and am going to keep it.

Nice series of photos, especially nice rendering of the clouds. What camera is it?

Unfortunately, Canon hasn’t had any compact cameras with a 1″ sensor in stock for quite a while now and they haven’t been able to get me a replacement for one I sent in a few months back for repair, so I had to give Sony a try. It seems like the high end compact market might be going away…

Was going to ask the same thing. 🙂 I like the colors from the Sony, and as a Canon guy myself, that’s saying something. Previously, I’ve felt like the Sonys were always a little too red for my tastes.

I am also struggling to replace a hole in my cameras for a compact after going through 4 Panasonics LX7s in the past 11 years. (Between sand and kids and sticking cameras out car windows, I am sort of hard on cameras and carry them everyday.) I’ve resigned myself to using old Sony A7 and Sony A7ii cameras paired with smaller lenses. They take lovely photos but are not pocketable. However, they are now much cheaper (used for a few hundred and weather sealed) than a new compact.

Hey Lacey, what kind of smaller lens do you keep on your A7 or A7ii? I have looked into this option as well with Canon and Sony, but I really like to have a 24-105mm equivalent lens on my camera and the smaller lenses usually don’t have that kind of range.
