Fall Colors 2015

Some of the very last colors of the season along Divide Road on the Uncompahgre Plateau.
I decided to head up onto the Uncompahgre Plateau after work this evening to see if there were any fall colors left. I ended up taking Divide Road all the way to Uncompahgre Butte (9,679), which I quickly summited while I was there, before turning around and driving back home for the night. While most of the aspen trees had dropped their leaves, there were still a few small groves left that were holding on to their color for a little bit longer. It was a nice way to spend a few hours after work.
Sun rays piercing through the trees over a dusty Divide Road.
One of the groves of aspen trees that still had their leaves.
I spotted this group after visiting the summit of Uncompahgre Butte. I liked the way they were surrounded by trees that had already lost most of their color. The bare trees framed this colorful grove nicely.
Even with no leaves above you can always enjoy the tree trunks emerging from the colorful brush below.
This group had the nicest color that I found this evening, but unfortunately when I tried to hike to them I was stopped by a tall fence with ‘No Trespassing’ signs. It figures that the best colors were on private property. I was standing at and shooting over the fence for this shot.
The curved trunk of the tree on the right caught my eye here.
Sunset over La Fair Creek on my drive back down.
Late, but nice work
Thanks Chuck!
