Veteran’s Day | Tuesday, November 11, 2014

Tuesday was our last morning in Zion before we had to drive back home and we decided to hike to the top of Angel’s Landing before leaving. After checking out of our hotel, we drove into the park one last time and were one of the first vehicles at The Grotto trailhead. We grabbed our backpacks and started the hike to the top. Although I had my camera with me (as I always do), photography wasn’t really the main objective for this short hike on a clear day like today. I just used it to take a few snapshots along the way.

Coyote Buttes North & Willis Creek

Friday – Monday, November 8-11, 2013

Last November I said that I was going to be taking a little break from visiting the Paria Plateau, and I have. However, almost exactly a year later I was ready to go back for another visit and managed to get another permit for Coyote Buttes North. I was only able to get one permit this time around, so it was a good weekend for me to take a solo trip. If I had to choose a month, I think November is probably my favorite time of the year to visit this area. This is the third year in a row that I have visited Coyote Buttes North in November and it seems like I usually have good conditions this time of the year. Even though this was the first year that I had clear blue skies all day with no dynamic weather, I still managed to come back home with many new images. Upper Antelope Canyon

Veterans Day | Monday, November 12, 2012

After spending a great weekend exploring The Paria Plateau it was time to start our drive back home. Before we left I thought it might be a good idea to finally check out Upper Antelope Canyon. I’ve seen plenty of photos from this well-known location but have always avoided it because of the large crowds of people that visit. I was hoping that since this was the “off season” it wouldn’t be too busy. Was I wrong! There were quite a few different groups of people in there. I was expecting there to be other people in the slot canyon, so I had prepared myself for it and wasn’t too bothered by it. I just planned to take most of my photos looking up out of the slot where other people wouldn’t get in the shot. However, what really frustrated the hell out of me was that many of these people were taking pictures with their point and shoot cameras that used a red focus-assist light that ruined most of my shots. Upper Antelope Canyon may be one of the most beautiful slot canyons in the world, but I highly doubt that I will ever be returning. It’s just not worth it to me.

Veterans Day Weekend at Natural Bridges

November Cedar Mesa & Comb Ridge Trip 2011
Friday & Saturday, November 11-12, 2011

Right after an awesome three day weekend in Northern Arizona I was headed down to Cedar Mesa with my friend Jackson for another long weekend over Veterans Day weekend. Our destination and goal for this trip was to explore Natural Bridges National Monument for two days. I had been to the park once before, but at that time we only stayed up on the canyon rim and viewed the bridges from their respective overlooks. This trip we were planning on descending down into White Canyon so that we could begin to explore the area for the abundent ruins and rock art found within the park. This was just the first of many trips I plan to spend exploring the area!

Veteran’s Day on Copper Ridge

This Veteran’s Day I wanted to check out the Copper Ridge trail. I have been on bits and pieces of this trail before, but have never done the whole thing in one shot before. I made my way to Moab and topped off my tank before heading north out of town and turning onto the old highway just opposite of the Gemini Bridges Road. I followed the old highway for about a mile and a half before turning left at the start of the Copper Ridge trail. The trail follows along part of the Bar M Loop at this point.
