‘Gotta get out’ Moab Weekend

Saturday & Sunday, March 28-29, 2009

After finally getting my Jeep trail ready again (new head gasket, oil pan, rear main seal, oil filter o-rings, front wheel bearing, driver’s seat, windshield and a fresh coat of paint on the front bumper) and realizing I had not gone out exploring in my Jeep for two months, it was time for me to get out again. What better place to go than Moab?

I decided to stick to the Island Area northwest of Moab for this trip. Bright and early Saturday morning Amanda and I hit the road and made out way to the Horsethief campground just off of Highway 313. After setting up camp we made our way over to the Dellenbaugh Tunnel. The last time I was at this tunnel was in 2007, however I was short on time that trip and didn’t get to explore too much.

After finding two geocaches near the tunnel we turned around and headed back and stopped to check out and photograph this water-carved wash nearby.

Delicate Arch

Saturday, March 21, 2009

Having been to Arches National Park a number of times, it was strange that we had never made it over to the most famous arch located there; Delicate Arch. We set out this morning to make the hike to Delicate Arch. Here’s a few photos from our hike.

Winter in Canyonlands

Sunday, December 28, 2008

After spending all day in Arches on Saturday we decided to head to Canyonlands Island in the Sky district on Sunday before heading home. It was nice to finally see more of this part of Canyonlands, because up until this point, I had only been on the Shafer switchbacks. I’m looking forward to checking out the White Rim trail sometime in 2009 to see even more of this section.

Winter in Arches

Saturday, December 27, 2008

On Saturday, Amanda and I spent our day doing some easy hikes in Arches National Park. While I have been there a number of times before, there are a few famous sights that I have never made it to before. Mostly because there are too many people at those areas during the spring and fall. During the winter, there are a lot less people in the park, so it is a perfect time to check out some of the more popular sights.

Thanksgiving on Comb Ridge | Sunday

Sunday, November 30, 2008

Still sore from the previous day’s hiking, we decided to run a local trail in the Jeep before heading home. Back in May we had run Arch Canyon for the first time, however it was cloudy and rainy much of the day. I wanted to head back with my new DSLR and a blue sky (though, we could have used some nice puffy white clouds). Amanda hasn’t driven my Jeep much in the past, but she wanted to drive this trail to the end. She was a bit nervous at first but was much more comfortable by the end. I got to ride along and relax for most of the trail.
