Imogene Pass

Saturday, August 27, 2011

On Saturday, Amanda and I took a nice leisurely drive over Imogene Pass from Telluride to Ouray. We started out the day with a visit to Bridal Veil Falls for a few photos before driving over Imogene Pass. Afterwards, we stopped in Ridgway for some burgers before heading back home. It was a nice half-day trip that is close to home. Here’s a few photos from the day.

Deer Creek Petroglyphs

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

This is just a quick and short report from my after-work excursion today. Earlier in the day I learned about the location of a new petroglyph panel, known as the Deer Creek Petroglyphs, which happens to be located near my house, so I set out this evening to visit it and get a few photos. I tried to time my visit so that it would be close to sunset in hopes that the late sunlight would be shining right on the panel, but apparently I was too late since it was completely in the shadows when I arrived. Good thing it’s close to home, because it will be easy for me to try again! Here’s a few photos I took.

White Rocks Rock Art

Tuesday, August 2, 2011

Earlier today I found some info that helped lead me to some rock art located in the Colorado National Monument which is pretty close to home. After work I went home and changed before heading out in search of them. Luckily, they were easier to find than I thought they would be, but unfortunately the area they were located in had a lot of vandalism and graffiti. I only had taken my S90 point and shoot camera with me since I wasn’t sure what I was going to find, so these photos aren’t that great. I will have to return with my better camera in the future…sometime. Here’s the photos of what I found…

Colorado Adventure 2011

Monday – Wednesday, August 8-10, 2011

Last Sunday I headed out to the Front Range area so I could do a little exploring. After getting caught in traffic on I-70 that turned the 4 hour drive into a 7 hour drive, I met up with Amanda and her family at the hotel they had reserved for a few days. We spent Monday at Rocky Mountain National Park, which was actually my first visit to that park. I started out with a drive up the Old Fall River Road and then just checked out a few of the main views along the road with a few short hikes. It was a good way to get acquainted with the park so that next time I can plan a little better.
