Johnson Valley, California
Friday – Sunday, November 17-19, 2006
I spent this past weekend hanging out on a dry lake bed and four wheeling with a group of friends in Johnson Valley, California. This was my very first trip to California and I know it won’t be my last. Since I flew in to Los Angeles, I didn’t have my own Jeep with me this time, but I did hitch some rides with my friends. There were definitely some very difficult trails there that were a lot of fun. I’d like to get my Jeep out there sometime in the future. On to the pictures!
I got a late start leaving from LA on Friday morning at 3:30am, so by the time we were getting close to JV the sun was just coming up for the day.
A bunch of people from our group were already there when we arrived.
Shortly after we got there, everyone woke up and headed out for the day. I ended up riding with one of Richards friends who had a built TJ. We started out on the beginning of Wrecking Ball and then turned off down Bender Alley.
Here’s a few pictures from the first part of Wrecking Ball:
Now some from Bender Alley:

After finishing Bender Alley we headed down Jack Back.
Then we shot over to check out Dirty Sanchez. Matt was the only one to try, but didn’t make it this time.
Finally we went over to take a peek at Chocolate Thunder and Richard decided to give it a shot. He made it look easy…
Just as the sun was setting for the day.
That evening we hung out at camp for a while and and I actually got a little bit of sleep. On Saturday I rode with Geoff and we some easy scenic stuff before watching some of the others on the big waterfall at the top of Wrecking Ball.
Here’s a few pics of the easy scenic stuff:
Part of the easy stuff included a nice flat dry lake bed that we got to race across.
Don’t go past the barrier!
Racing across the playa.
Then off to watch the waterfall on Wrecking Ball.
Then it was back to camp for dinner and a raffle. Oh yeah, and Scrappy was tired of his roof flapping around so he took an angle grinder to it…
Plenty of good raffle prizes.
Sunday we didn’t stick around too long since I had a flight home to catch, but neither did anyone else. Before leaving we watched some rigs run the waterfall on Backdoor.
I shot some videos of that, too.
