After over five years of service, my Feisol tripod legs have really started giving me trouble. It’s gotten to the point that I don’t even like having to set it up anymore. I’ve cleaned it as best as I can and the legs are still pretty difficult to extend, plus one of the twist locks has been broken for a while. It was time for me to look for something new. After a little bit of research, I have decided to go with Gitzo and picked up a Mountaineer Series 2 (GT2542) and will be keeping my Acratech GP-s ballhead. This tripod is a bit heavier than my old Feisol, so I don’t plan on taking it backpacking (I’ll be sending the Feisol in for service soon and will hopefully continue to use it on backpacking trips), but it’s definitely light enough for day hiking. I’m looking forward to giving this tripod a workout over the next few months and years and am hoping that the Gitzo will live up to it’s name!
