On Tuesday morning I went on the official NAXJA trail group on Strike Ravine which was lead by Alex. The group consisted of 20 XJ’s, and even though it was a larger group, we managed to make good time on the trail. This was my first time on Strike Ravine, and I’m glad I went with the group, because it would be a difficult trail to follow on my own. There are a number of roads and trails that intersect in this area, so I might need to head back another time and do some more exploring. I volunteered to tailgun this trail for Alex, so most of my pictures are from the back of the group.

After getting a good night’s sleep in my motel room at the Inca Inn, I was up early again on Monday morning to meet up with some Midwest Chapter members to go an run Golden Spike. We were originally planning on a pretty large group showing up, but because of some setbacks it ended up only being myself, Rev and Susie, and John (lesslimited) and Cindy.

A Wet and Cool Weekend in The Needles

Saturday & Sunday, October 4-5, 2008

Before heading to NAXJA’s 25th Anniversary event in Moab, I headed to Canyonlands Needles District where I met up with Jared, Alex, Maria and Adam for a weekend of exploring the area. After leaving the house at 5am and taking the back way through Gateway, I managed to make it to the ranger station shortly after 9am. Alex had reserved a Peekaboo campsite in Salt Creek Canyon earlier this year, however it was only good for three vehicles and we now had four. Luckily for us, the other site was not reserved, so we grabbed that one as well. While we were getting our camping permits and finding out that Horse Canyon was closed due to a large washout, we ended up getting day permits for Lavender canyon.
