There was a pretty nice sunset in the San Rafael Swell on Friday evening before we floated the San Rafael River on Saturday. It was a pretty great weekend!

I had an amazing time floating through The Chute of Muddy Creek on Saturday and am glad I was finally able to do that! It was the first time I've ever paddled through a slot canyon and it was a lot of fun. Stay tuned for the full trip report!

A very cool pictograph / petroglyph I saw last week on my backpacking trip in Canyonlands.

This is interesting tall granary that is built into an alcove underneath a very large boulder in Canyonlands National Park. The following photo is a closeup of a few corncob impressions in the mortar that are found to the bottom left of the doorway opening.

Update: Unfortunately, Of Mice & Men have had to cancel all their shows this week so we will not be seeing them tonight. We are still going to the show to see Currents, though. We just saw Of Mice & Men in Salt Lake City at the end of February

San Rafael Reef

I am coming home early from a morning on the San Rafael Reef so Diane and I can catch Underoath at the Mesa Theater tonight. It should be another good show!

There was a very nice sunset from my campsite along the road to Lockhart Basin on Friday evening. I typically camp near here when I'm going to be spending time in The Needles.

After spending the last three days in Rifle for training, I've made a last minute decision to head out to the Mesa Theater this evening to catch Kingdom of Giants and check out a couple other bands while I am there.

A nice little granary we found while hiking in a canyon over the weekend with an even smaller doorway to a little storage space (closet) right next door.

This weekend was probably the coldest overnight temperatures I have backpacked in, but the daytime temps were very nice in the The Needles. All the creeks were flowing and water was plentiful. Stay tuned for the full trip report!
