Dinosaur Bones & Petroglyphs

Return to Dinosaur National Monument
Saturday & Sunday, October 15 – 16, 2011

I’ve wanted to get back to Dinosaur National Monument most of the year to re-photograph some of my favorite petroglyphs and visit some new ones. I had to be patient while the Fossil Bone Quarry was being rebuilt because Amanda really wanted to check out the dinosaur bones. At the end of September the Quarry finally reopened and we were looking forward to getting back up there. Since I was was in Northern Arizona and Southern Utah for the first week in October we had to wait until the third weekend in October to finally spend a weekend there.

Dry Fork – McConkie Ranch

Saturday, March 12, 2011

Finally! I have wanted to get up to Dry Fork to check out the petroglyphs and pictographs on the McConkie Ranch for quite a while. So on Saturday, Amanda and I drove up there for a nice day trip. These amazing rock art panels are located on private property north of Vernal, but the McConkie Ranch has created two trails that allow the public to visit them. I’d like to thank the McConkie Ranch for allowing the public to access the rock art located on their property!

Fantasy Canyon

Sunday, October 25, 2009

After leaving Dinosaur National Monument and a quick stop in Vernal we headed south on our way home. However, we did have one more stop planned at Fantasy Canyon along the way. This was a cool area, however we ended up getting there at a bad time…..most of the photos I took were shooting into the sun, so they didn’t turn out as well as I would have liked. We will have to head back another time to get some better shots. Here’s some of the better ones I got….
