Ely Creek Falls just off of the Jones Hole Trail in Dinosaur National Monument.

I have wanted to hike into Jones Hole within Dinosaur National Monument for a long time but have always put it off since getting there is a little out of the way for me. I finally decided it was time to get up there and check it out, but instead of doing it as a day hike, I figured that I would do it as an easy overnight trip and camp along the Green River in Whirlpool Canyon. I really wish I hadn’t waited so long to visit Jones Hole because it was an amazing experience. Saturday & Sunday, October 15 – 16, 2011

Since I was was in Northern Arizona and Southern Utah for the first week in October we had to wait until the third weekend in October to finally spend a weekend there.

Finally! I have wanted to get up to Dry Fork to check out the petroglyphs and pictographs on the McConkie Ranch for quite a while. So on Saturday, Amanda and I drove up there for a nice day trip. These amazing rock art panels are located on private property north of Vernal, but the McConkie Ranch has created two trails that allow the public to visit them. I’d like to thank the McConkie Ranch for allowing the public to access the rock art located on their property!

After leaving Dinosaur National Monument and a quick stop in Vernal we headed south on our way home. However, we did have one more stop planned at Fantasy Canyon along the way. This was a cool area, however we ended up getting there at a bad time…..most of the photos I took were shooting into the sun, so they didn’t turn out as well as I would have liked. We will have to head back another time to get some better shots. Here’s some of the better ones I got….
