This trip report is dedicated in loving memory of my mom, Kathryn J. Langstraat.

I’ve long been a believer of enjoying life and living it to the fullest. That’s why I’m out exploring the Colorado Plateau and Rocky Mountains just about every chance I get (and creating all of these trip reports some of you enjoy reading). You never know just how much longer you actually have on this Earth, so I always try to make the most out of my free time! I was sadly reminded of that fact this very weekend.

Coyote Buttes South

A few months back I scored another set of permits to Coyote Buttes North and The Wave. Since I was going to be down here for that, I decided to grab a pair of permits to Coyote Buttes South and make a weekend out of it. This was my first trip to Coyote Buttes South, and I know it definitely won’t be my last!

On Thursday we decided to take things easy again since we had another long hike planned for Friday. We didn’t really have any plans for the day, so over breakfast we brainstormed some ideas and decided to head over to the White Pocket for the day. I had not been there before and it was on my long list of places to visit. Plus, since it had rained all night, we thought there might be some nice puddles and full potholes out there.
