I didn’t plan this out at the beginning of the year, but looking back I noticed that I have spent a lot of time in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park in 2018, so I’m calling this the Year of the Needles! Besides finishing hiking all of the official trails within The Needles, I also spent a lot of time exploring more remote areas of the park and found some cool stuff along the way. Since the road into Horse Canyon finally opened up again later this season, I was able to plan a last minute trip to return there, too! It was an excellent year!
I probably won’t be spending as much time in The Needles next year, but I do already have permits for two backpacking trips there in the spring and am currently planning on returning in January or February for some more exploring! There’s just so much to see, and I guess that’s the reason why I consider The Needles to be my favorite district of Canyonlands, with The Maze coming in a close second! Check out all of my Trip Reports from my Year of The Needles below!
Besides spending a lot of time in The Needles, I also found a little time to visit The Maze and the Island In The Sky this year, too. I had a great year exploring Canyonlands which is definitely my favorite National Park to visit!
