Today I was invited by a friend at work to raft the Colorado River with him from Grizzly Creek to South Canyon near Glenwood Springs. Since Amanda and I had nothing planned for today, we decided to go with. Another guy I work with also had his boat with and a few passengers, too. While one the river, we even ran into two other boats belonging to other co-workers as well. It was like being at work today 😉

Amanda and I headed down to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park for a day trip. This trip we only checked out the South Rim and headed down to the East Portal. We are planning on heading to the North Rim in the future sometime. Just some photos from the day…

With word of the trails in the San Juan Mountains starting to open up already thanks to plenty of dust storms this spring, Amanda and I decided to head down for a day trip. Our destination was a few trails around Silverton. Amanda wanted to drive a trail this trip and since she’s never been up Stony Pass she ended up driving that one. Unfortunately, on our way up to the pass, the weather got bad. It started out as some heavier rain, but as we got higher it turned into snow. The tops of all the mountains were out of view behind the clouds. Once we reached Stony Pass, we decided to turn around and head out of the clouds and into a lower trail.

Amanda had to go into work today so I decided to head up onto the Uncompahgre and finish some trails I have started before and to check out a few new ones. I made a big loop by starting out in Escalante Canyon and following it up onto Love Mesa where I eventually joined Divide Road. I headed down the other side of the plateau through Casto Draw and made my way to Gateway. After fueling up, I headed up Sheep Creek and onto the Dolores Triangle. After looping around through Granite Creek, I headed back home through Glade Park.

Another 12 hour day in the books. This time with Amanda. I figured that since I have now driven the Kokopelli and the Tabeguache, I would just finish off the Grand Loop and find a 4×4 route of the Paradox Trail.

We got an early start this morning and headed towards Gateway, CO where I topped off my tank before heading up John Brown Canyon and the Gateway-Castleton Road to the start of the Paradox Trail. I won’t get into the details of the trail in this post, but I will say that the first half of the trail (50ish miles) went very smoothly. However, the second half of the trail did not, as I ran into some washed out sections of trail that I could not drive and then had to backtrack quite a ways. I am going to have to try to find some different routes for the second half of the trail in the future.
